Frequently Asked Questions
Does the dependent need to live with the insured parent?
No, under ACA rules children do not need to live with, be claimed as a tax dependent by, or even be in the same state as the parent to remain on the parent's health insurance until age 26.
Can I add a dependent outside open enrollment?
Yes. A birth, adoption, marriage, or loss of other coverage are qualifying life events that allow you to add a dependent during a Special Enrollment Period. You generally have 30 to 60 days from the event to enroll.
