How a raw portion is worked out
Raw portions are usually set as a percentage of body weight rather than by calories. Enter the weight and the daily percentage to get the total for the day, then the muscle meat, raw bone and organ shares divide that total. The tool also gives the minimum share of the organ portion that should be liver, a per-meal amount and a seven day batch figure.
The defaults of 80 muscle meat, 10 raw bone and 10 organ, along with 2 to 3% of body weight a day for adults, are ratios common in raw feeding circles that try to mimic a whole prey animal; they are not figures recommended by a veterinary body. Filling at least half the organ share with liver follows the same practice, so that minimum is shown separately. Every field can be overwritten. Content is current as of October 2026.
AVMA does not advise feeding raw animal-source protein that has not gone through a process to eliminate pathogens, because of infection risk both to the animal and to the people in the household. This ratio also cannot meet vitamin and mineral requirements on its own, so it is not nutritionally complete and balanced, and feeding raw calls for veterinary nutrition advice. No calorie calculation is done here. This tool is for reference only and does not replace veterinary care. Contact your veterinarian right away if you notice symptoms or suspect a problem.

It is a ratio common in raw feeding circles that tries to mimic a whole prey animal. It is not a figure recommended by a veterinary body, so if the plan you follow or your veterinarian gives different shares, overwrite them.
For adult dogs 2 to 3% of body weight is the common figure. Puppies eat far more while growing, so do not reuse that range for them; set it with your veterinarian.
AVMA does not advise feeding raw animal-source protein that has not gone through a process to eliminate pathogens, and this ratio on its own does not guarantee a balanced diet. Review handling and supplementation with a veterinary nutrition specialist.
