Turn RPG Speed Calculator

Predict action order at battle start from character speed stats

How to Use the Turn RPG Speed Calculator

In turn-based RPGs, who acts first at battle start often decides the outcome. Landing a freeze or stun before the enemy moves, or applying a buff before damage rolls in, makes the difference between victory and a slow recovery. This calculator takes 2 to 6 character speed values and outputs the action order they will follow at the very start of combat.

Most turn-based RPGs use a time-gauge system where the time until first action equals 10,000 divided by speed. A character with speed 100 acts at tick 100, while speed 200 acts at tick 50 — twice the speed equals half the wait. The calculator applies this exact formula and shows each character's first-action tick for direct comparison.

If your character benefits from a buff, gear, or rune that modifies speed, enter the final effective speed. A base 130 with a +20% buff becomes 156. Including the boss's speed lets you check whether your team can survive the boss's opening turn before responding.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are speed ties handled?

The tool sorts ties in input order. Real games may break ties by character ID, registration order, or position, so use this as a reference point.

Can I see the order for turn 2 and beyond?

This tool only models the first turn. If your game resets gauges to 0 after each action, the same order repeats; cumulative gauge systems require separate analysis.

How do I model slow / speed debuffs?

Apply the debuff to the speed value before entering it. A 30% slow on speed 100 should be entered as 70 (100 × 0.7).
