How to Use the Alcohol Intake Calculator
This calculator computes pure alcohol in grams and total alcohol calories from what you drink. Enter the drink type, ABV, and volume in ounces for each beverage. Add multiple drinks to see your full evening total.
Alcohol Content Formula
Pure alcohol (g) = volume (ml) × ABV (%) ÷ 100 × 0.789. Alcohol has 7 kcal per gram, making it almost as calorie-dense as fat. A pint of 5% beer contains about 18g of pure alcohol and roughly 125 kcal from alcohol alone.
US Drinking Guidelines
The 2020–2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend up to 2 standard drinks/day for men and 1 for women. A US standard drink = 14g of pure alcohol.
