The adhesive quantity needed is calculated by multiplying the insulation area by the rate for your bonding method. Spot bonding (5-point pattern) uses about 0.046 lb/sq ft, full-surface bonding uses 0.138 lb/sq ft, and strip bonding falls in between at 0.074 lb/sq ft. A 10% waste factor covers application losses.
Full-surface bonding provides the strongest bond and is preferred in high-wind zones or critical applications. Spot and strip bonding are faster and use less adhesive, but generally require supplemental mechanical fasteners to meet code requirements.
