How to Use the Hex Bar & Square Pipe Weight Calculator
Select your shape (hex bar or square hollow pipe), enter the dimensions, length, material, and quantity. The calculator instantly shows the weight per piece and total weight in kg and tons.
Formulas Used
Hex bar cross-section area = (√3/2) × s² mm², where s is the across-flats dimension. Square pipe area = 4 × T × (A - T) mm². Weight (kg) = area × length(m) × density(g/cm³) ÷ 1,000.
What is Across-Flats (A/F)?
The across-flats dimension is the distance between two parallel faces of the hex bar — the same as the wrench or spanner size. A 3/4" hex bar (19mm A/F) fits a 3/4" wrench.
Frequently Asked Questions
19mm across-flats, steel (7.85 g/cm³), 6.1m = about 14.9 kg. Per meter, a 19mm steel hex bar weighs approximately 2.45 kg.
2"×2" = 50.8mm, 0.1" = 2.54mm. Area = 4 × 2.54 × 48.26 ≈ 490mm². At 10 ft (3.05m), weight ≈ 490 × 3.05 × 7.85 / 1000 ≈ 11.7 kg.
