How to use the Daily Activity Time Budget Calculator
Type one activity per line with its hours after a comma. The tool shows the share each activity takes of a 24-hour day as a bar and a percentage, and reports whether the hours you entered add up to more or less than 24. Because you name the rows yourself, a commute, caregiving or study block goes in exactly as you track it.
Each share is the activity hours divided by 24. The total is the sum of the hours exactly as you typed them; rounding happens only for display. If any line uses two decimals (for example 6.75), the hours, total and gap are all shown to two decimals, otherwise to one, so the hours column always adds up to the total shown (a third decimal or more is rounded to two). If a line has no comma, tabs and spaces are used to split it, and any line whose hours cannot be read is named by its line number. Current as of October 2026.
A total above 24 hours does not stop the calculation; the overflow is reported as it stands. There is no official standard for how a day should be divided, so no target hours or comparison figures are offered. A fixed set of four rows for sleep, work, meals and leisure is not covered here, and the tool does not store day-by-day records.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The overflow is reported and the table still appears, which makes it easy to spot an activity that was counted twice.
A comma is the safest separator, but tabs and spaces work too. The last number on the line is read as the hours and the text before it becomes the activity name.
No. There is no official standard for dividing a day, so no comparison figures are offered and only the shares and totals of your own numbers are calculated.
