How to use the fiscal quarter progress calculator

Pick any month from January to December as the fiscal year start, enter a reference date, and the page names the fiscal year, quarter and half that the date belongs to, then gives the quarter progress, the days left and the progress of the whole fiscal year. Organizations closing their books in March or September, whose quarters do not line up with the calendar, can read progress against the quarters they actually use, and the table lists all four quarters with their start and end dates and day counts.

How the numbers are produced

Quarter boundaries come from absolute month numbering, and the day counts come from coordinated universal time component arithmetic between one quarter start and the next. A quarter holding a leap-year February therefore shows one extra day. Progress is given to one decimal, and when days still remain but rounding would print 100.0%, the page shows 99.9% instead. Figures are as of October 2026.

Limits and what is not covered

Quarter progress that uses only today and offers just January, April, July and October as starts is not covered. The page also leaves out week-based fiscal schemes such as 52-week or 4-4-5 calendars, book-closing and tax filing deadlines, and any judgment about goal attainment.

Frequently asked questions

Which year labels the fiscal year?

The year in which the fiscal year ends, following the US federal convention. With an October start, October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027 is FY2027; with a January start, the fiscal year matches the calendar year. The quarter labels run Q1 to Q4 within that fiscal year.

Why do the quarters have different day counts?

Months differ in length, so three of them bundled together differ as well. A quarter containing a leap-year February runs one day longer, and because the page counts the days between one quarter start and the next, the table changes from year to year.

Does the progress include the reference day?

Yes. The count runs from the first day of the quarter through the reference day, so the opening day registers as one day elapsed. The days left are counted the other way, from the day after the reference date to the last day of the quarter.
