How to Use the Overtime Calculator
This calculator helps hourly workers estimate their total weekly pay including overtime. Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), non-exempt employees earn 1.5 times their regular pay rate for every hour worked beyond 40 in a workweek. Enter your total hours and hourly rate to see exactly how much you should be paid.
How to Use

US Overtime Rules (FLSA)
The Fair Labor Standards Act requires 1.5× pay for all hours over 40 in a workweek for non-exempt employees. The 2024 federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour; many states have higher minimums. Some states (California, Alaska, Nevada) also require daily overtime for hours exceeding 8 in a single day. This calculator uses the 40-hour weekly federal standard. California daily OT is shown as an option but uses the same 1.5× rate from the weekly hours input for simplicity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Under FLSA, non-exempt hourly and salaried employees earning below the salary threshold ($684/week in 2024) are entitled to overtime. Ask your employer or check with the US Department of Labor if you're unsure of your classification.
This calculator computes 1.5× overtime under the federal FLSA standard. California's double-time rule (2× for hours over 12/day or over 8 on the 7th consecutive day) is not calculated here — consult your state labor department for specifics.
