How the Random Proverb Generator Works
Set how many proverbs you want and press the button. The tool draws from its list at random and prints each proverb with a one-line meaning. Switch the meanings setting to hide them and only the sayings appear, which turns the page into a guessing game: read the proverb, work out what it means, then switch back to check. It also works well for a daily quote on a classroom board, a writing prompt, or a conversation starter in an English class.
What is in the list
The list holds 25 English proverbs that people genuinely use in everyday speech. Regional variants, half-remembered versions, and invented sayings were deliberately left out so nothing on the page is made up. Each meaning is a short summary of the common reading rather than a dictionary definition, and in real conversation the sense can shift a little depending on context. Proverbs translated from other languages are not included, because a literal translation often stops making sense in English.
How the draw works
The full list is shuffled with the Fisher-Yates algorithm and then sliced from the front, so a single draw never repeats a proverb. Five is the maximum per draw; a larger number is trimmed to five and the result explains the adjustment. Pressing the button again reshuffles the entire list, so a proverb you already saw can come back. Nothing is stored — the results live only on screen.
