How the Cleaning Zone Assigner Works
Enter your people and your cleaning zones, and the assigner decides at random who covers which area and lays it out in a table. Because some areas need more hands than others, you can also set how many people each zone needs, so a restroom can take two while the window sills take one and everything is still assigned in a single pass. Both boxes accept line breaks and commas as separators and drop empty lines.
Identical names are treated as different people rather than merged. Up to 200 people and 50 zones are used, and the summary says so when either list was trimmed. Leave the per-zone field empty and it counts as one person per zone.
Too few or too many people
When there are fewer people than slots, someone covers more than one zone, and the summary reports how many double-ups happened and the most zones any one person holds. No zone is ever left silently empty. When there are more people than slots, every zone gets the same base number first and the remainder is added one at a time from the first zone, again with both numbers shown. If the per-zone requirement is larger than your entire headcount, the same person would have to fill one zone twice, so the assignment stops and explains why.
How the shuffle works
The list of people is shuffled with the Fisher-Yates algorithm and then dealt across the zones in order. Whenever there are enough people, nobody lands in two zones, and every person has the same chance of any zone. Avoiding the zone someone had last week is not supported.
