Read ingredients by order, not by grade

Paste the ingredient list from a pet food or treat label and this tool numbers every entry in the order it is printed, then reports where any terms you want to check appear. Ingredient lists are normally printed in descending order of weight, so what sits at the front tells you the most about how a product is built. Entries are split on commas, new lines and semicolons, and never on spaces, because ingredient names often contain spaces.

Why no grade is given

No authority has ever established an A, B or C grading system for pet food ingredients. The labeling framework used by AAFCO requires ingredients in descending order of weight along with a guaranteed analysis, but it does not score individual ingredients. Information here is current as of October 2026.

For that reason this tool produces no grade, score or ranking, and it does not compare actual nutrient amounts between products with different moisture levels. The organized list works well as a note to show your veterinarian. This tool is for reference only and does not replace veterinary care. Contact your veterinarian right away if you notice symptoms or suspect a problem.

Frequently asked questions

Does an ingredient listed first mean a better food?

It only means that ingredient weighs the most. It says nothing about quality, and differing moisture levels make order alone hard to compare.

Why does the tool refuse to give a grade?

Pet food ingredient grades have never been standardized by any authority, so the tool only sorts the order and locates the terms you ask about.

A check term was not found. Is the food fine?

It only means no entry matched your text. The same item may be printed under a different name, so read the original package as well.
