How to use the automatic pet feeder portion calculator

Enter the total food for the day, how many meals the feeder will drop, and how much one portion slot holds. The tool shows how many slots to set per meal and how far the resulting daily total lands from your target, which helps when setting a feeder up or after switching to a different kibble size.

The arithmetic is plain. The daily total is divided by the number of meals, then that figure is divided by the slot size and rounded to the nearest whole slot. If the result falls below one slot it is raised to one and the result says so. The formula used is printed with the result. Compiled as of October 2026.

This tool does not calculate calories or how much your pet needs. The daily total has to come from your veterinarian or the feeding chart on the bag. This tool is for reference only and does not replace veterinary care. If weight climbs or drops quickly, the portion itself needs revisiting, so contact your veterinarian right away.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the daily total come from?

Use the amount your veterinarian set, or the feeding chart on the bag. This tool does not calculate calories; it only splits a total you already have by meals and slot size.

Why do I have to enter the slot size?

A feeder drops a different amount per slot on every model, and kibble size changes it too. Use the manual figure, or drop one slot onto a scale and enter what it weighs.

What if the daily total comes out above my target?

Whole slots rarely land exactly on a target. If the gap bothers you, try a different number of meals, or take one slot off a single meal to bring the day closer.
