It shows how the ingredients split, nothing more
List one ingredient per line as name, ounces and kcal per ounce and the tool returns each item's energy, its share of total weight and of total calories, and the average caloric density of the whole mix. Add a daily target and the gap is shown too. Lines separate ingredients while commas or tabs separate fields, so names containing spaces work fine.
Nutritional balance is not guaranteed
This calculation covers only the weight and calorie split of what you entered. Combining a handful of ingredients cannot meet vitamin and mineral requirements, so the result must not be read as a balanced diet. Nutrient requirements published by AAFCO and FEDIAF assume complete and balanced formulas, and whether a homemade mix meets them is not something this tool judges. Information here is current as of October 2026.
Long-term homemade feeding can create deficiencies or excesses, so a veterinary nutrition consult is needed. This tool is for reference only and does not replace veterinary care. Contact your veterinarian right away if you notice symptoms or suspect a problem.
Frequently asked questions
No. This calculation does not guarantee nutritional balance. Vitamins and minerals are not included, so confirm the recipe with a veterinary nutrition consult.
Take the per-100-gram figure from a food database and divide it by 3.5275. Cooking changes it, so match the value to the cooked state you feed.
There is no limit on lines. Each line needs all three fields, and if the format is off the tool names the line number.
