How Wallpaper Roll Quantity is Calculated
The calculation works in four steps: (1) find the room perimeter, (2) determine how many strips are needed, (3) calculate strips per roll based on ceiling height and pattern repeat, and (4) divide to get roll count. Deductions for doors (2m × 2m each) and windows (1.2m × 1.2m each) reduce the strip count.
Patterned wallpaper wastes material per strip when matching the design, so effective strip height equals ceiling height plus one full pattern repeat. Always buy at least 1 spare roll from the same batch in case of repairs, as dye lots can differ between print runs.
Wallpaper Types
- Vinyl-coated: Durable, washable, easy to clean — ideal for kitchens and bathrooms
- Non-woven: Tear-resistant when wet, easier to remove — recommended for most rooms
- Natural fiber: Eco-friendly, unique texture, less moisture-resistant
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Ceiling coverage requires a separate calculation using the floor area (width × length). Strips run horizontally on the ceiling and may require a different quantity than the walls.
Thin wallpaper can sometimes be applied over existing paper if it is firmly adhered. For heavy wallpaper, removing the old layer first is strongly recommended to prevent peeling and uneven surfaces.
