Legal basis - the United States has no general training extension of state unemployment benefits. The closest programme is the Trade Readjustment Allowance paid to workers certified under the Trade Adjustment Assistance programme, authorised by the Trade Act of 1974 at 19 U.S.C. ยงยง2291-2293 and administered under 20 C.F.R. Part 618, which continues weekly payments while an approved full time training course runs. Week limits have been amended repeatedly, so figures here are current as of September 2026 and your state may differ - confirm the cap with your state TAA coordinator.
Korea runs a broader training extension under its employment insurance law that can add up to two years for workers directed into training, so the Korean version is not limited to trade affected industries.
