Mahjong scoring needs both han and fu, and until the two combinations sit in memory the usual answer is a printed table. This calculator takes the hand shape, han and fu, whether the hand was won on a discard or self-drawn, and whether you sit as dealer, then shows the base points and exactly who pays what, so the payment can be checked without the table.
The page follows the Japanese riichi mahjong scoring rules as described on Wikipedia. Base points are fu multiplied by two to the power of han plus two. A ron pays four times base, or six times for the dealer, rounded up to the nearest 100. On a tsumo by a non-dealer the dealer pays twice base and the other two pay base each; on a dealer tsumo all three pay twice base, and every single payment is rounded up to 100 on its own. Fu is rounded up to a multiple of ten, except chiitoitsu which is fixed at 25 fu with no rounding. Base points are capped at 2,000, and anything above that becomes a mangan.
Rule variants exist, so a club, tournament or app may settle differently. Six han and above, the yakuman family, riichi sticks, red fives and honba bonuses are not covered, and the page does not decide which yaku a hand holds. Current as of October 2026.
Frequently Asked Questions
The riichi scoring rules call for fu to be rounded up to a multiple of ten before the base points are worked out, so 32 fu is scored as 40 fu.
Chiitoitsu is fixed at 25 fu and the ten-point rounding is not applied to it. Picking that hand shape makes the page ignore whatever fu you typed.
Whenever base points pass 2,000 they are held at 2,000. Five han is an automatic mangan, and 3 han 70 fu or 4 han 40 fu also reach the cap.
