Why Contribution Matters
Almost every multiplayer endgame mode - MMO raids, guild wars, clan systems - awards rewards proportional to the guild's collective score. If activity gaps between members are large, an equal split frustrates the top contributors, while a contribution split punishes casual members. Putting the math in front of the group surfaces a fair starting point for the discussion.
Choosing a Split Method
When activity gaps are within 30%, an equal split is simpler and reduces friction. Gaps over 50% usually justify contribution-based splits, and the highest-tier content (raids, guild bosses) tends to suit contribution payouts. A 70/30 hybrid (70 equal + 30 contribution) is a common compromise that rewards top players without demoralizing the rest.
Practical Tips
Using just one week's activity can punish a member who took a real-life break. Average over four weeks or use quarterly totals to smooth out spikes. Run new members on a separate track for their first 4-6 weeks so contribution math does not gatekeep onboarding.
FAQ
Use the guild's contribution points if your game has them, otherwise count run attendance, damage dealt, or weekly check-ins.
Display rounds to one decimal, and actual reward distribution rounds to integers. A 1-2 unit mismatch is normal.
Bucket members into role groups (top DPS, support, casual) and enter group totals - or run the calculator twice.
