How to Use the Recipe Scaler

Enter the original (base) number of servings and your target servings. Then add each ingredient with its name, quantity, and unit. The calculator instantly proportions every ingredient to your target serving count.

How It Works

The scale factor is simply target รท base. Every ingredient quantity is multiplied by this factor. For a 4-serving recipe scaled to 10 servings, the factor is 2.5 and every ingredient is multiplied by 2.5.

Scaling Tips

Salt, sugar, and strong spices often taste better at 80โ€“90% of the proportional amount when scaling up significantly. Indivisible items like eggs should be rounded to the nearest whole number. Baking recipes are more sensitive to ratios than savory cooking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I double every ingredient when doubling a recipe?

Most ingredients: yes. Salt and strong spices: scale to about 1.5โ€“1.8ร— to avoid over-seasoning.

Can I scale down with this tool too?

Yes โ€” enter a target smaller than the base and all quantities are divided by the same ratio.

What about fractional eggs (e.g. 0.8 eggs)?

Round to the nearest whole number. For very precise scaling, beat eggs and measure out the exact portion by weight.
