How to use the overhead rep volume calculator

List only the exercises where your hands travel above shoulder height, one per line, with the name, number of sets and reps per set. The tool returns total reps per session, total reps per week and the share each exercise contributes. Add last week total and you also see how many reps the week went up or down.

The math is arithmetic: sets times reps per set gives reps per session for each exercise, and that sum is multiplied by sessions per week. No authoritative threshold linking overhead rep counts to shoulder pain is published, so this page gives no safe limit and no score. It shows the numbers you entered and how they changed, as of October 2026.

There are limits. Load, range of motion and tempo are not included, so the same rep count can feel very different, and volume for other body parts and your recovery are not tracked. The tool does not draw a conclusion about the state of your shoulder.

This is not a medical assessment. If pain catches in the middle of raising your arm, if the shoulder aches when you lie down at night, or if you have numbness, weakness or cannot lift your hand above your head, see a doctor such as an orthopedist or sports medicine physician before adjusting rep counts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tell me how likely a shoulder injury is?

No. There is no published threshold for how many overhead reps becomes hazardous, so this page assigns no score and no tier. It reports the rep counts you entered and the change from last week.

Which exercises count as overhead?

Anything where the hands pass above shoulder height: overhead press, pull-ups, lat pulldowns, snatches and wall balls. Bench press and rows, where the arms stay below the shoulders, do not belong on the list.

What happens if I leave last week blank?

The change line says the value was not entered, and only the weekly totals and per-exercise shares are calculated. The percentage change needs a value from last week.
