Why the Same Rep Count Can Mean a Different Grade
Pull-ups and dips lift your entire body weight instead of an external load, so the heavier you are, the more strength it takes to hit the same rep count. Ten pull-ups from a 130 lb person and ten pull-ups from a 200 lb person represent very different levels of strength. This calculator applies a ratio against a reference body weight (165 lb) so people of different sizes can be compared on a relative grade.
How the Grades Are Divided
Five tiers, from Beginner to Elite, show where you currently stand, and the calculator also works out how many more reps you need to reach the next tier. Dips involve more muscle mass and a shorter range of motion than pull-ups, so they generally allow higher rep counts — which is why the two exercises are scored on different scales.
Consistency Is What Moves You Up a Grade
Your grade is a reference point for where you stand today, not an absolute ranking. Even if you're short of the target rep count, training consistently 2-3 times a week while gradually increasing difficulty will naturally bring you closer to the next tier.
