How to use the internship hours to credits calculator
An internship or co-op course turns logged hours into academic credit, so the question is usually how many more hours the next credit takes. Enter your total hours and the hours per credit your program uses, and this page shows the credits earned, the hours that have not yet turned into credit, and the hours still needed for the next step.
The conversion divides total hours by hours per credit and then rounds down to your chosen step, because partial credit is not normally awarded. The hours needed for the next step are rounded up instead, so the target is never understated. Enter a credit cap and only the room left after credits already granted is awarded, with anything beyond that listed separately as over the cap.
Hours per credit, step size and caps vary by school, department and placement type, so nothing is built in. This page does not handle internship pay, employer evaluation scores or weekly hour limits.
Frequently asked questions
Credit conversion for internships and co-ops is set by each school, and even one school can use different ratios for short and long placements or by department. There is no common standard, so you enter the figure from your own program guide.
No. Credits are rounded down to your chosen step, so nothing moves until the next step is reached. The leftover hours and the hours still needed for the next step are shown separately.
With a cap entered, only the room left after credits you have already been granted is awarded, and anything above that is reported as over the cap. Leave the cap blank to calculate with no limit.
