How to use the study abroad transfer credit calculator
Credits on a host university transcript are not counted the same way as credits at home, so adding up the numbers on the transcript overstates or understates what will actually transfer. Enter each course you took abroad and apply the conversion ratio your study abroad office publishes to see the figure in home credits. Mark a course n to keep it out of the total.
The host credits of the accepted courses are added first, multiplied by the ratio, and rounded once at the total, because rounding course by course drops a fraction each time and shrinks the result. The per-course figures in the table are shown before rounding. With a cap entered, only the room left after credits already transferred is counted, and the rest is listed as over the cap.
Ratios and caps differ by school, region and term length, so nothing is built in. This page does not decide whether a course clears a grade rule or prior approval, and it does not convert host grades into a home GPA.
Frequently asked questions
Your study abroad office publishes a credit conversion rule that states how many home credits one host credit is worth. The ratio changes by region and term length even within one school, so it is entered rather than built in.
Rounding each course throws away a fraction every time and the total ends up smaller than it should be. Host credits are added up and converted first, then rounded once at the total.
Whether a course clears a grade rule or prior approval is the school's call, so this page does not judge it. Put y for courses already approved or expected to be, and n for ones to leave out.
