DORA Metrics: what tier is your team really at?
DORA Metrics are four software delivery metrics developed over years of research by Google Cloud's DevOps Research and Assessment team. Deployment frequency, commit-to-deploy lead time, mean time to recovery (MTTR) after incidents, and change failure rate combine to classify teams into Elite, High, Medium, or Low.
Each metric here uses a simplified version of the actual DORA report thresholds. Elite means 30+ deployments per month, lead time under 24 hours, MTTR under 1 hour, and change failure rate under 15%. The overall tier is the rounded average of the four metric scores.
A low tier doesn't automatically mean something is wrong. The right deployment cadence varies by team size and the regulatory constraints of your service — the real value of this metric is as a compass for finding where to focus improvement, not a pass/fail grade.
