Split a bonus pool by contribution score

How to use the incentive distribution calculator

The size of the bonus pool is usually settled long before anyone works out who gets what. This calculator takes the pool and a contribution score for each person, then splits the money in proportion to those scores and lays the result out in a table. Enter one person per line as a name and a score separated by a comma, and add or remove lines as the group changes.

Splitting purely on performance is not always the right call. The equal-split share sets aside part of the pool to be divided evenly among everyone, with only the remainder following the scores. Set it to 0% for a fully score-weighted split, or to 100% to pay everyone the same amount.

Payouts are rounded down to whole dollars, which normally leaves the individual amounts a few dollars short of the pool. The leftover is added to the last person on the list so the total matches exactly, and the adjustment is reported with that person named only when a leftover actually arises. Since every company weighs performance differently, no split formula is hard-coded here.

Frequently asked questions

What should I use as a contribution score?

Whatever number your company already produces: a review rating, percent of quota attained, or gross profit generated. Only each score as a share of the total matters, so a 100-point scale and a 1,000-point scale give identical payouts.

Do the individual payouts add up to exactly the pool?

Yes. Each share is rounded down to whole dollars and the leftover is added to the last person on the list. The adjustment amount and that person are shown only when a leftover actually occurs.
