How to Use the Reaction Speed Tester

Click the Start button, then wait. After a random delay of 1–4 seconds, the panel will turn green. Click the green panel as quickly as possible — your reaction time from the color change to your click is recorded in milliseconds (ms). If you click before the panel turns green, it counts as a false start and you'll need to try again.

The average human visual reaction time is about 200–250ms. Your first attempt is usually slower as your brain adjusts. For a meaningful benchmark, run the test 3–5 times and compare. Factors like fatigue, caffeine, and monitor input lag can influence results — so use a consistent environment for comparisons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is under 200ms considered fast?

Yes. Anything under 200ms is above-average. Elite athletes and gamers often clock 150–180ms with practice. Average untrained adults typically land between 200–260ms.

Why do my results vary each test?

Concentration, fatigue, and anticipation all vary from trial to trial. The random delay prevents you from predicting the signal and gaming the test.

Does screen or mouse lag affect the results?

Yes. Monitor input lag and mouse polling rate add a small fixed offset to all measurements. Use the same setup each time to make fair comparisons.
