Before you start building a fence, it helps to know exactly how many posts and panels to buy so you don't end up making multiple trips to the hardware store. This calculator takes your total fence length and post spacing, figures out how many sections the run divides into, and gives you the post and panel counts you need.
The post count is always one more than the number of sections — a run split into 5 sections needs 6 posts, including the start and end posts. Wider spacing (8ft instead of 6ft) means fewer posts and lower cost, but panels may sag more over time, so match your spacing to the panel material's strength.
The actual run length shown may not exactly match your input if the length doesn't divide evenly by the spacing — the last section may end up slightly shorter or longer. Measure the site and adjust final post positions as needed.
