Age Formats Explained
International age: Subtracts birth year from current year, minus 1 if your birthday hasn't passed yet this year. Used in most countries and legal contexts worldwide.
Korean age: Born at age 1, adds 1 every January 1st. Still widely used in casual Korean conversation, though South Korea unified its legal age standard to international in June 2023.
Year age: Current year minus birth year, regardless of birthday. Used in some Korean statutes and school-year calculations.

Because Korean age starts at 1 at birth and adds a year every New Year. Someone born on December 31 would be "2 years old" in Korean age the very next day (January 1). The international age system counts only completed years from birth.
