How to Use the School Enrollment & Graduation Calculator
Enter a date of birth and select your state's kindergarten cutoff date. The calculator uses the standard US school structure (K–5 elementary, grades 6–8 middle school, grades 9–12 high school, 4-year college) to project enrollment and graduation years.
US Standard School Structure
- Kindergarten: Age 5 by the state cutoff date (Sept. 1 most common)
- Elementary School: Grades K–5 (6 years)
- Middle School: Grades 6–8 (3 years)
- High School: Grades 9–12 (4 years)
- College: 4 years for a bachelor's degree
Frequently Asked Questions
Children who miss the cutoff must wait until the following academic year. Some parents choose to redshirt their child — intentionally delaying kindergarten — for social or developmental reasons. This shifts all graduation years by one year.
This calculator assumes the standard K–5 / 6–8 / 9–12 structure. If your school district uses a different grade banding (e.g., K–8 or K–12), the graduation year for that level would be the same, just labeled differently.
