How to Use the Retirement Countdown Calculator
This tool calculates how many days, months, and years remain until your retirement date. Enter your birthdate and target retirement age to see your projected retirement date, time remaining, and how far along you are in your career. It's a helpful reality check when planning retirement savings or setting FIRE goals.
How to Use
Select your date of birth, enter your target retirement age (default 67, the US full Social Security age), and your career start age (default 22). Click "Calculate" to see your retirement date, days remaining, and career progress percentage.
US Retirement Benchmarks
Age 62 is the earliest age for reduced Social Security benefits. Age 65 is when Medicare eligibility begins. Age 67 is the full Social Security retirement age for those born in 1960 or later. FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) advocates often target retirement at 45–55. Adjust the target age to match your personal financial plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
No mandatory retirement age exists for most private-sector workers in the US. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) protects workers 40 and older from age-based forced retirement.
The result will note that the retirement date has already passed and display how long ago it was. Try setting a higher target age to see a future countdown.
