How to add strikethrough or underline to plain text
Crossing out an old price or underlining a line in a profile is easy in a word processor and impossible in most plain text boxes. This tool appends the Unicode combining characters that draw a line across each letter, so the text still looks struck through or underlined where no formatting is available. You can choose strikethrough, underline, overline, or strikethrough and underline together.
The line is a separate character attached to each letter. Strikethrough uses the combining long stroke overlay and underline uses the combining low line, one per visible character. Characters made of several code points, such as emoji, are kept together so they are never split in the middle. Line breaks are skipped, so empty lines stay clean, and text that already has these marks is stripped first and then redecorated.
It does not look identical everywhere. Depending on the font and the app, the line may break up between letters or sit slightly off, and some services strip the marks when you paste. The text also doubles in length, which halves what fits wherever there is a character limit. When you need the plain text back, the remove button strips every mark and leaves the original characters.
