About the NATO Phonetic Alphabet

The NATO phonetic alphabet — formally known as the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet — assigns a distinct code word to each letter of the Latin alphabet to avoid confusion when spelling words over voice communications. A=Alpha, B=Bravo, C=Charlie, D=Delta, and so on through Z=Zulu.

It is the global standard for aviation, military, police, maritime, and emergency services. When you need to spell out a word over the phone — an email address, a password, a license plate — using NATO codes eliminates mishearing similar-sounding letters like B/D/E or M/N. Digits also have standard spoken forms from Zero to Nine.

Simply type or paste your text above and the tool instantly shows the NATO code for each character. Use the Copy button to copy the result as plain text.

FAQ

Does case matter?

No. Both uppercase and lowercase letters map to the same NATO code word. 'a' and 'A' both produce Alpha.

What happens to special characters?

Characters with no NATO equivalent (punctuation, symbols, non-Latin letters) are displayed as-is in the result table.
