Roulette hit odds come from pocket counts

Hit odds are the pockets a bet covers divided by the pockets on the wheel. A European wheel has 37 pockets including the zero; an American wheel has 38 with both 0 and 00. Red, black, odd, even, high and low each cover 18 pockets, which is 48.6486% in Europe and 47.3684% in America. Dozens and columns cover 12, and a single number covers 1, giving 2.7027% and 2.6316%. Streak odds raise the single-spin probability to the power of the streak length, assuming independent spins.

Higher hit odds do not reduce the expected loss. On a European wheel every one of these bets carries the same long-run expected value of โˆ’2.70%, and on an American wheel it is โˆ’5.26%. The expected loss builds up the more you wager, and changing the hit odds does not change that rate.

This tool reports hit odds only. It does not cover expected value, payouts or return rates, and it does not cover the American five-number bet on 0-00-1-2-3. It is not a betting aid; treat it as study material for probability. Written as of October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Why is red not a 50% bet?

Red covers 18 pockets, but a European wheel has 37 including the zero, so it is 18 / 37 = 48.6486%. An American wheel adds 00, dropping it to 47.3684%.

How are streak odds calculated?

Each spin is independent, so the single-spin hit probability is raised to the power of the streak length. Three reds in a row on a European wheel is 11.5136%.

If red kept coming up, is black due?

No. Every spin is independent, so the odds on the next spin are unchanged.
