How the Random Sport Recommender Works

Choose where you want to play and how many people you have, set how many suggestions you want, and press the button. Sports that match your filters are drawn at random. It is built for the moment you know you want to start something but cannot narrow the field. Each pick comes with a one-line description of what the sport is, plus its setting and group size.

Two filters

Setting is indoor or outdoor, and group size is on your own, with one partner, or as a team. Sports played in both settings, such as volleyball, basketball and futsal, appear under either choice, and sports that work alone or in a group, such as bowling, appear under several group sizes. If fewer sports match than you asked for, a notice appears so you can widen a filter or lower the count. Up to five sports are suggested at a time.

No difficulty or cost ratings

Start-up cost and how hard a sport feels depend heavily on your area, the facility and the gear you choose, so this tool does not label anything easy, hard or cheap. Once you have a shortlist, check the courts, gyms and local groups near you. The list holds 27 sports and is shuffled with the Fisher-Yates algorithm, so suggestions never repeat inside one draw.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there no difficulty or cost rating?

Those depend too much on your area, the facility and your gear to be stated as a single value. Only a description and the filters are shown.

It says not enough sports match.

That appears when your setting and group-size combination has fewer sports than the count you asked for. Widen a filter or lower the count.

Can the same sport come up again?

Not inside one draw. Press the button again and an earlier sport may reappear.
