How the Random Date Generator Works
Set a start date and an end date, then press the button to draw one date from that range at random along with its weekday. Switch the day filter to weekdays or weekends and only those days stay in the pool. It works for picking a vacation day, choosing a cut-off date for a giveaway, assigning presentation slots, or generating sample dates for a spreadsheet.
How the range and weekdays are counted
The range is inclusive at both ends. January 1 through January 3 counts as three days, and any of the three can come up. Weekdays are Monday through Friday and weekends are Saturday and Sunday; public holidays are not considered. The dates you type are read as plain year, month, and day numbers instead of being parsed as a timestamp, which is what keeps the result from sliding a day forward or back in a different time zone. The date and the weekday shown next to it therefore always agree. Years must fall between 1900 and 2200, and a start date later than the end date returns a message rather than a result.
Drawing several at once
Candidate days are shuffled with the Fisher-Yates algorithm and sliced from the front, so a single draw never repeats a date. The picks are then sorted from earliest to latest for easier reading. Five dates is the maximum per draw; if fewer days match, only those come out and a note explains the adjustment. When nothing matches the filter at all, a message says so instead.
