How the Odd or Even Game Works

Call odd or even, set how many marbles are in play, and press the button. One integer from 1 up to that maximum is drawn at random, and the round is decided by whether the number is odd or even. A correct call scores a win, a wrong one a loss, and the running record and win rate update immediately. It is an easy way to settle who goes first, who pays, or who takes the last slice.

The odds are not always 50/50

With an even maximum, odd and even have the same number of possible outcomes and the game is a true coin flip. With an odd maximum there is one extra odd outcome, which tilts the game. Set the maximum to 5 and odd covers 1, 3, and 5 while even covers only 2 and 4, so odd wins 60 percent of the time. When that happens the result shows the exact case counts underneath, so set an even maximum whenever the round needs to be fair. The maximum can be anything from 1 to 100 marbles.

About the record

The win rate is wins divided by total rounds, shown to one decimal place and calculated from the raw counts rather than the rounded display. The record lasts only while the page is open and disappears on refresh. Pressing the reset button returns rounds, wins, and losses to zero. Nothing is transmitted or stored anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the result decided?

One integer from 1 up to the maximum you set is drawn at random, and the round is judged on whether that number is odd or even. Each press draws again.

Are odd and even exactly 50/50?

Only when the maximum is an even number. With an odd maximum there is one extra odd outcome, so odd is slightly favored, and the result shows a note with the exact case counts.

Is my record saved?

It lasts only while the page stays open and clears on refresh. The reset button wipes it on demand, and nothing is sent to a server.
