How to use the Parrot Seed and Pellet Ratio Calculator

Moving a bird onto pellets runs into the same question every time: how many grams a day, and how do they get split across the bowl? Enter the total food for the day, the pellet, seed and produce shares you have decided on, and how many meals you serve, and this calculator divides the day into grams per component and per meal. If the shares do not total 100%, the calculation stops and tells you what they currently add up to.

The method is plain apportionment: the total multiplied by each share gives grams per day, divided by the number of meals to give grams per meal. Nothing is rounded mid-calculation; the raw figures run all the way through and digits are fixed only for display. The formula used is printed with the result, so swapping in different shares makes it obvious where the numbers moved.

No default shares are pre-filled. As of October 2026, no veterinary body such as AAHA or WSAVA publishes a seed-to-pellet ratio by parrot species. Recommendations shift entirely with species, age and breeding status, so planting a figure here would make it read like a recognized standard. Set the shares with a veterinarian who sees birds. This calculation also does not confirm calories or nutritional balance. It is for reference only and does not replace veterinary care.

Frequently asked questions

What shares should I enter?

The tool suggests none, because no recognized ratio table exists. Settle the shares for your species and age with a veterinarian who treats birds, then enter those figures and let this tool handle only the gram split.

Does it check whether the diet is balanced?

No. This works out weight apportionment only and never checks vitamin or mineral requirements. A ratio alone cannot deliver a balanced diet, so discuss any long-term feeding plan with your veterinarian.

Can I leave the produce share at zero?

It will calculate. Putting 0 in a component you do not use is how you make the three shares total 100%. Whether that mix is appropriate is not something this tool judges, so check with your veterinarian.
