A phase-by-phase log of what happens when your dog is alone
Check what your dog does in four phases: while you get ready to leave, during the first 30 minutes alone, while alone, and right after you return. Enter how many days you watched, tick only the items that apply, and the tool shows the total, the spread across the four phases, and the list of items you checked. You cannot see the middle phase yourself, so tick those items only from a camera or a recording.
No validated scoring sheet converts these behaviors into a severity grade, so this tool produces no score and no stage. Barking, indoor accidents and over-grooming while alone can also come from pain, endocrine disease or age-related cognitive change, a point that AAHA and WSAVA behavior guidance both make. Reviewed as of October 2026.
This tool does not name a cause, assign a stage, or suggest training protocols or medication. This tool is for reference only and does not replace veterinary care. Contact your veterinarian right away if you notice symptoms or suspect a problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. It only counts and lists the items you checked. It assigns no stage, score or cause. Only a veterinarian or a qualified behavior professional can diagnose.
A count cannot measure severity. Even with a single item, bring the log to your veterinarian if the behavior worries you.
Pain, endocrine disease and age-related cognitive change can all show up as barking, indoor accidents or over-grooming when a dog is alone. Training alone will not help if a medical cause is behind it.
