How to Use the Dog Size Category Classifier
Size brackets are used everywhere from feeding amounts to crate sizing and neuter timing guidance, but sorting by breed name hides the weight spread inside a single breed. This classifier uses no breed names at all. Enter a weight and it returns the matching bracket, the edges of that bracket and how far it is to the next edge.
The 5, 10, 25 and 45 kg cut points come from the size grouping applied in a retrospective analysis of birth records across 224 breeds, shown here in pounds as well. Whether each edge is inclusive is printed in the table, so a dog at exactly 5 kg reads as small and one at exactly 45 kg reads as large. Breed-based size labels may differ from this. The tool does not judge whether the weight is healthy and says nothing about body fat. It only maps a weight onto a bracket. This tool is for reference only and does not replace veterinary care. Contact your veterinarian right away if you notice symptoms or suspect a problem.

Breed labels fold in build and bloodline, while this tool reads weight only. Use it where weight is the actual input, such as crate sizing or feeding charts.
It classifies the current weight, but the bracket will change as the puppy grows. If you know the projected adult weight, run that figure too.
