How to use the pet export prep days calculator
Flying a pet out of the country means stacking a microchip, vaccinations, a titer test and a health certificate in the right order, each with its own deadline, and one slipped step can ground the trip. So the schedule has to be built backward. Enter your departure date and, one per line, the requirements and lead times you read in the official notice, and this calculator returns each deadline plus the date you have to start by.
The math is each deadline = departure date minus the lead time, and the recommended date subtracts your buffer on top. The total prep window is the longest lead time plus that buffer. Items that must be issued within N days of departure, such as a health certificate, go in as "within N": issued too early they expire, so no buffer is subtracted and the tool shows the window from N days before departure to departure day. No lead time is built into this tool, because requirements are national law and get revised: only the notices from USDA APHIS and the destination country authority count as the source. Current as of October 2026.
This tool does not list country-by-country requirements, does not supply forms, and does not verify the numbers you type. This tool is for reference only and does not replace veterinary care. Contact your veterinarian right away if you notice symptoms or suspect a problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
This calculator does not answer that. Requirements and lead times are set by the destination country and change often, so the backward schedule is only right when you enter the values from the notice.
From the USDA APHIS pet travel notice and the destination authority notice for your route. No lead time is stored in this tool, so nothing is calculated until you enter those values.
Certificates and lab results sometimes come back later than the published lead time, so a buffer pulls every recommended start date earlier by that many days.
