How to use the Reels and Shorts reach calculator
The limitation comes first. Instagram and YouTube do not publish how they decide who sees a Reel or a Short, and results move with topic, posting time and early engagement even on the same account. There is no public model that turns a view count into reach with a fixed multiplier. So this calculator hardcodes no coefficient at all: it takes the ratio actually measured in your own insights and does nothing more than apply it.
Copy the view count and the accounts-reached figure for one recent post straight from your insights. The calculator derives your reach-to-views ratio from those two numbers and applies it to the expected views of the new post. It also divides expected views by estimated reach to show plays per account, which reveals whether a post inflated its views through repeat plays rather than reaching new people.
Add the non-follower share of reach and you also get how much of the estimated reach sits outside your audience. Pick a past post with a similar format, length and topic, and average several posts to smooth out variance. The output is your own past ratio applied forward, so treat it as a reference range rather than a forecast.
Frequently asked questions
No. Some platforms count a view only after a minimum watch time while reach counts every account the post appeared for, so the ratio can exceed 100%. Plays per account then shows below 1.
Then this calculator cannot help yet. Wait until two or three posts have insights, and derive the ratio from those measured numbers.
