A care label carries symbols for four home treatments: washing, bleaching, tumble drying and ironing. Pick what you actually see on the label - whether the symbol is crossed out, how many dots it carries, and whether a bar sits under it - and the tool counts how many treatments are marked as allowed, which ones to skip, and which ones ask for reduced mechanical action.
The four treatment groups and the symbol system follow ISO 3758:2023 (fourth edition) from the International Organization for Standardization. In that system a symbol stands for the most severe treatment that does not cause irreversible damage, dots mark a temperature level, and a bar under a symbol means reduce the mechanical action. Ironing temperatures are quoted from the International Association for Textile Care Labeling: the pre-2023 system and ASTM D5489 from the American Society for Testing and Materials put 1, 2 and 3 dots at 110, 150 and 200 °C, while the current ISO 3758:2023 puts them at 120, 160 and 210 °C (as of October 2026).
The drawings and the detailed conditions behind each individual symbol are not confirmed in an authoritative source, so this page shows no symbol artwork and gives no Celsius value for washing or drying dots. Detergent dosing and wash frequency are not covered. The value printed on your product label is the reference - follow the label and the manufacturer guidance first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Dots mark a temperature level. For ironing, the maximum temperature behind 1, 2 and 3 dots is published for each system and shown here, but the temperature values behind washing and tumble drying dots are not confirmed in an authoritative source.
A bar under a symbol means reduce the mechanical action. The tool counts those treatments separately and does not claim any detailed condition for the number of bars.
The International Association for Textile Care Labeling states that the maximum temperature must be chosen only from the care label, not from the fiber composition. That is why this tool asks for label symbols rather than fabric type.
