During dry seasons, it's common to run a humidifier all day, but electricity cost and water use can vary a lot depending on the type. This calculator estimates monthly electricity cost and water consumption based on the power draw and hourly water use of ultrasonic, warm-mist (steam), and hybrid humidifiers.
Ultrasonic humidifiers use a vibrating plate to mist water, so they draw very little power. Warm-mist models boil water into steam, using about as much electricity as a small space heater. Hybrid models combine both methods and fall somewhere in between. Just select your humidifier type, then enter daily usage hours, days used per month, and your electricity rate.
