How to Use the Furniture Layout Calculator

Enter your room's width and depth, then the furniture's width and depth (in inches). The calculator checks if the furniture fits — including a 90-degree rotation — and shows the remaining clearance on each side. It also calculates the floor space the furniture occupies as a percentage of the room, helping you gauge how crowded the room will feel.

A minimum clearance of 24 inches (60 cm) is the standard for comfortable movement in most rooms. For primary walkways and between major pieces of furniture, 36 inches (90 cm) is recommended. Don't forget to account for extra space when drawers or doors need to swing open — typically an additional 18–24 inches in front of the piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find exact furniture dimensions?

Check the product detail page on the manufacturer's or retailer's website. For furniture you already own, measure width (side to side), depth (front to back), and height with a tape measure.

Can I use centimeters instead of inches?

Yes — enter all values in the same unit. If you use centimeters, the room and furniture area will display in square centimeters. Just keep units consistent across all inputs.
