How to use the Reading Goal Calculator
Enter your annual book goal, average pages per book, reading speed in pages per minute, and how many minutes per day you read. The calculator shows how long it takes to finish one book, how many days that represents, and how many books are achievable in a year. If you entered a goal, it also tells you whether you'll hit it — or how many more minutes per day you'd need to close the gap.
Reading speed reference guide
Beginner: under 1 page/min. Casual adult reader: 1.5–2 pages/min (novels, self-help). Fast reader: 2.5–4 pages/min. Speed reader: 5+ pages/min. Dense nonfiction or technical text: 0.5–1 page/min. Tip: time yourself reading one page and divide 60 by the seconds taken to get your pages-per-minute value.
Frequently Asked Questions
With a 300-page book at 1.5 pages/min, one book takes 200 minutes — about 7 days at 30 min/day. That's roughly 52 books per year. Use the calculator with your actual values to get a personalized estimate.
Time yourself reading exactly one page. If it took 40 seconds, your speed is 60/40 = 1.5 pages/minute. Use that number in the calculator. You can also use 1.5 as a conservative default for most adult fiction and nonfiction.
