How to Use the Morning Routine Timer
Enter the time you need to arrive at work or school, then fill in how many minutes each step of your morning takes. The calculator will subtract the total from your target time to show exactly when you need to wake up. If you feel rushed every morning, this tool helps you see where time is being lost and how to fix it. Adjust each step to simulate a leaner routine.
Wake-Up Time Formula
Wake-up time = Target time − Total routine minutes. For example, if you need to be at work by 9:00 AM and your total routine takes 85 minutes, you should wake up at 7:35 AM. If the result shows "(prev. day)" your routine is longer than the target time allows — reduce some steps.
Average Time per Routine Step
| Step | Quick | Average | Relaxed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wash up / grooming | 3 min | 10 min | 15 min |
| Shower | 5 min | 15 min | 25 min |
| Breakfast | 0 min | 15 min | 30 min |
| Getting dressed | 3 min | 10 min | 20 min |
| Packing / misc | 2 min | 5 min | 10 min |
Tips to Speed Up Your Morning
Lay out your outfit and pack your bag the night before — this alone can save 10–20 minutes. Simplify breakfast to something quick like overnight oats or a smoothie. If possible, shower in the evening to free up the most time. Setting a consistent sleep time also makes waking up earlier far easier over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Enter 0 for the shower field. Any step you skip can be set to 0 or left blank and it will be excluded from the calculation.
Set your alarm 5–10 minutes before the calculated wake-up time to handle unexpected delays. Start with more buffer and reduce it once your routine is reliable.
If the target time is your office arrival time, include commute. If it is when you leave home, set the commute field to 0.
