How to use the system scaffold quantity calculator

Give the building perimeter, the total scaffold height and the post spacing and lift height you work to. The page first works out the spans and lifts, then counts the standards, ledgers and braces that follow from them. Because the number of rows and the brace spacing are yours to set, you can compare a two-row wrap and a single outer row on the same screen.

The arithmetic is division, rounding up and multiplication only. Spans are the perimeter over the spacing rounded up, and lifts are the height over the lift height rounded up; rounding up is needed because each count has to be a whole number. The page is current as of October 2026.

Standard post spacings and lift heights were not confirmed in an authoritative source. Figures given in temporary works rules differ between sources, so none are suggested and only your values are used. Platforms, wall ties, guardrails and structural checking are not covered. This calculator is for reference and does not replace design. Review by a qualified engineer is required.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the page not pick the post spacing and lift height for me?

Spacing figures from temporary works rules were not confirmed in an authoritative source. Published descriptions differ and the product system changes them anyway, so no value is suggested and the page simply counts members for the spacing you enter.

What assumptions go into the counts?

The perimeter divided by the post spacing and rounded up gives the spans, and the total height divided by the lift height and rounded up gives the lifts. Standards are counted once per span per lift, ledgers at every lift plus one at the top, and braces on the outer row only.

Are platforms and ties included?

No. The page covers only standards, ledgers and braces. Platforms, wall ties, guardrails and base plates are not covered, and neither is structural checking or the assembly sequence.
