How to use the concrete strength by curing age calculator
Enter the specified 28-day strength (f'c), the curing age in days, and the cement type and curing method to estimate the compressive strength available at that age, expressed both in psi and as a percent of the 28-day value. Contractors use this when deciding formwork stripping times, shoring removal, post-tensioning stressing dates, and cold-weather scheduling.
The calculation uses the ACI 209R age-strength relationship f(t) = t / (a + b·t) x f28, normalized so that 28 days returns exactly 100%. The constants a and b depend on cement type and curing: Type I cement with moist curing uses a = 4.0 and b = 0.85, while Type III cement and steam curing gain strength much faster over the first 3 to 7 days.
These values assume standard curing conditions. Actual in-place strength depends on the mix design, curing temperature and humidity, and member thickness, so formwork removal and load application should be confirmed with field-cured cylinder breaks or maturity meter readings under ACI 318 acceptance rules. Have the structural engineer of record review the schedule before it is finalized.
