With succulents what matters is waiting until the soil is dry right through rather than watering often, and how fast that happens depends heavily on pot size and season. This calculator takes the dry-out time you measured once, scales it for the pot you are using now and for the season, and prints the next watering date along with how many waterings that interval works out to across a year.

The arithmetic is dry-out days multiplied by current pot diameter divided by reference pot diameter, multiplied by the season factor. The interval is rounded up and the yearly count is 365 divided by the interval and rounded down. Diameter scaling is plain linear proportion, not a formula lifted from anywhere. The expression used is printed in the results and the next five watering dates are listed, so month ends and leap days stay correct.

There is no official standard for watering frequency or care difficulty by variety. This page therefore offers no variety list and assigns no difficulty tier; it asks you to measure the dry-out time yourself. Soil mixes, light and airflow are outside its scope. Current as of October 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I measure dry-out days?

Count the days from a thorough soaking until the soil is dry all the way through, just once. Per-variety intervals are not published by an official source, so the page will not pick one.

What goes in the season factor?

A ratio against the season you measured in. Use less than 1 for a season that dries faster and more than 1 for one that dries slower.

Is pot diameter enough on its own?

No. Diameter scaling is plain proportion, and pot material, depth and airflow all shift the result, so re-measuring the real dry-out time after one cycle gives a closer figure.
