For the times a list has to fit a slot

Background music for an event, one workout or a single set on stage all have to fit a fixed length. Adding track lengths by hand goes wrong quickly once minutes and seconds are mixed together. This page takes a list written in minutes and seconds, returns the total running time and the average track length, and lays out a running total so you can see how far into the slot each track lands. Add titles and they appear in the table; lengths alone are counted just the same.

How the totals are formed

Each line is converted to seconds and summed, shown as h:mm:ss once the total passes an hour and as m:ss below that. The average is the total seconds divided by the track count and rounded to whole seconds, and entering a target shows the time remaining or the amount over. The number of tracks that still fit divides the remaining time by the average and rounds down, so it never pushes the list past the target. Leave the target blank and those two lines say so.

What this page does not do

It does not pick tracks by genre or mood to build a list for you; it only adds up the list you entered. Gaps between tracks, fades and any overlap when mixing are not part of the calculation, so the real running time may be slightly longer or shorter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enter a track longer than an hour?

Yes. Write it as 1:02:30 and it is read as hours, minutes and seconds. Written as 3:45 it is read as three minutes and 45 seconds.

Do I have to enter titles?

No. Lengths alone, one per line, are counted the same way. Titles you do enter appear in the table, and a blank one is shown as untitled.

How is the number of tracks that still fit worked out?

The remaining time is divided by the average track length and rounded down. Because it rounds down, adding that many keeps you inside the target.
